Cornwall Celebrated the music of Paul Lovatt-Cooper |
 Paul, paying his first visit to the Cornwall Youth Brass Band worked with resident conductors, Alan Pope, Aaron Harvey and Jeremy Willcock. He rehearsed a full program of his music in preparation for their annual Easter concert at St Michael’s Church in Newquay.Paul also gave a master class in composition with a handful of young up-coming composers and gave a presentation to the full course giving an insight into his professional composing world. The action-packed course was a challenge both technically and physically for the students as they rehearsed a number of challenging pieces including Horizons, The Haunted Halls, Solar Eclipse, Wall of Sound and Dream Catchers. The band also featured co-principal cornets Sarah Matthews and Adam Scott playing ‘Emerald Skies’, principal baritone Rachael Sloggett performing ‘Donegal Bay’ and Joanna Scott playing ‘An Untold Story’. The music course culminated with a sell-out gala concert at the picturesque St Michael’s Church in Newquay. The course and concert were enjoyed by all with some course members remarking that it was “Inspirational”. PLC commented “The course was one of the best music courses I have worked on in a long time: From the preparation by Phillip Hunt and his team, to the dedication and hard work from the delegates and the tremendous help from the many parents and volunteers behind the scenes. The concert was very enjoyable – it was a pleasure to work with the band". |
